“All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.” – J. R. R. Tolkien, from The Lord Of The Rings
A Wandering Finalist, well this is my first personal photographic project that I undertook.The concept of the shoot was to travel around the country, have a chat with my Singaporean friends around the different universities (either some old friends or friends that I was lucky enough to have made thanks to being involved with the UKSSC as the Singapore Society chairman at Loughborough Uni in ’09-’10), and try to understand and capture something representative of their 3 years spent here in the UK being a university student away from Singapore.
Being a final year undergrad student meant that everyone would soon be moving on to the next phase of their life and I wanted to take the opportunity of the rest week (which probably is the only chance I had before they graduated and returned home) to do this.
Sadly, I had to cut short the trip to prepare for the competition this Saturday, thus missed out on going up north through Sheffield, York, Durham, round Scotland and back down via Manchester. That meant I missed out on a lot of friends whom I’d really would have liked to meet.
Oh well, nothing ever goes exactly according to plan, but duty calls and I won’t turn down an opportunity like this.
With regards to training I was back at the track today and I am feeling the effects of the cough that I picked up a week ago (what are the odds, coinciding with my rest week that I fell sick). Luckily it’s just the shot put this Saturday and not something like 400m or worst.
Just over a week to Woodford, really hope this cough goes away soon.
Hope you enjoyed the pictures and do drop any feedback or improvement tips about the photos, many thanks!
